WE
MADE IT!
Ok! Where do we even begin?!
Becoming New Yorkers is not as easy as it looks. We have quickly discovered some key necessities for living here (Manhattan feels like it is its own world and y'all are so far away).
Key thoughts on being an official New Yorker:
- MUST OWN A GREAT PAIR OF FLATS!!
- Going grocery shopping feels like running a half marathon..not to mention it cost us $150 for bread, milk, eggs, and some goldfish.
- Mace is key for walking at night!
- Houston Street is actually pronounced... Howston Street...it makes us look like we know a thing or two
- Brunch and mimosa's are the cool thing to do on Sunday's
- Ignore the rando's passing out flyers every block
- Time Square is NOT cool when you live here. Too many people at a stand still.
- Everyone walks at our fast pace, it is normal!
- Southern accents will get you places in this town.
- Just because you don't see churches and schools doesn't mean they don't exist.
- Sweet little puppies or mimi's should not live in the city. It is cruel and unjust. They look MIZZZZ and have no grass to play or pee on.

Moving on now..
Our first day of work was a huge success! We took the subway from 50th Street (a block away from our apt.) two stops downtown at 34th- Penn Station and walked to French Connection ( 512 7th Avenue). While waiting in the subway, we were approached and asked to guide someone to the airport. Little did they know who they were asking! We stared at each other debating whether or not we should act like we knew the route she should take or just tell her we have no clue! We settled on the "we have no clue." We felt pretty good after that because apparently we looked convincing to the fellow New Yorkers that we are residents. When we arrived at FC, we were introduced to the staff and then separated for the duration of the day, we survived, shocker!! We hit the ground running with no time to worry or run away! Everyone was so welcoming and no where near the typical, "Devil Wear's Prada" stereotype. Morgan quickly found a gay friend, James, to shop with us. He is a doll. Morgan also sweated her face off the entire day in the part of the office where the air was broken. You know she loves to sweat! Her first day ended sooner than mine and she quickly got on the wrong subway alone and was lost for the next 45 minutes. Luckily, I have not experienced the panicky feeling of having no clue where you are at, praise the Lord. I was able to successfully pull all the look for the Chicago & Atlanta markets today, my feet hurt but I conquered.

Grocery shopping on the other hand was not as successful.... we are not in Alabama where there are Wal-Marts any more. Off to sleep for another busy day of work in the real world. Reality has set in! Night!!

ReplyDeleteHi Sarabeth and Morgan! I love your blog. Please post alot! Y'all have lots of fun and be careful! Yes your southern accent will be quite the curiosity the entire time you are there. Most of the "foreigners" love to hear the accent : ). Same out west. Funny people!
